The United Methodist Men are still available whenever help is needed. They meet monthly and have one or two events a year that are open to spouses. They meet for devotions, fellowship, and an evening meal. Their meetings usually include a speaker. They help families in need as a mission.
Although there must have been a men’s group for nearly all of the church’s history, Dr. Paul Secrest (Superintendent of the Akron District) presented a Charter of Methodist Men to Wayne Phipps (president of the local men’s club) in 1954.
The current officers of the United Methodist Men are Gary Goodge, President; Dick Stalker, Vice President; Bob Ishee, Head of Projects and Programs; and Ken Chuha, Treasurer.

The Chardon United Methodist Men’s dinners restart for the new fellowship year in September. They are always the 3rd Wednesday of the month. Interesting speakers, great food and fellowship. There will also be occasional field trips with restaurant dinners. Be prepared for most anything (including the very first tour ever given to a group at the new Geauga County Jail - no one was left behind!) September’s speaker is a bit of mystery, come and see for yourself. This dinner is open to all adult men whether you are member or a friend. Sign up on the Atrium bulletin board. |

August 19 - 6:30 pm
Maple Grove Pavilion at Big Creek Park
The United Methodist Men invited our families to the annual Hamburger Corn Roast. We had great burgers and locally grown sweet corn, sides, sodas and dessert under the shelter of Maple Grove pavilion. Over 100 of us ate, talked and laughed our way through the picnic.
This mid-summer treat is a great way to meet your friends and make new ones in a low-key, flip-flops and shorts casual environment. The UMM has done this every year for many, many years and every year it gets better and better. Join us next year and experience one of Geauga County’s most beautiful parks. |
