You may have seen tall wooden crosses, draped with purple fabric, while driving in Geauga County yards this month. We thank Ray Schneider and a group of volunteers for spreading the spirit of the season. Read the News Herald article for more information. Then, post your comments at the bottom of the News Herald article!
It started out as a gift to church members from Ray & Ernie. It grew into a project by the Hambden Home Group and spread to include friendly volunteers Dorthine and Janet. The first 48 crosses were built, sanded, stained and urethaned by Ray, Ernie, Jim, Ric and Barry in Ernie’s barn. Fabric for the scarves was purchased at stores near and far by Ruth, and cut by Dorthine and Janet.
The completed crosses went fast to church folk and after the great article in the News Herald, people from all over Lake and Geauga County began calling, wanting the opportunity to display this ‘gesture of faith’ in their yards. Twenty more crosses were prepared and by the end of March, Ray had delivered and installed a total of 68 crosses. It started as a small gift to a few and became an outreach of love. We really are the hands and feet of Jesus.
