Marge Noble, Lay Member to Annual Conference
Bishop John Hopkins presided over the 41st East Ohio Annual Conference held at Lakeside the week of June 14-17. The theme was “Hope and Healing”.
Our focus is to look forward with faith and action. “Hope and Healing” is needed in our churches now. We must grow spiritually as members and leaders, be disciples of Christ, fruitful instruments of our Lord.”
Guest speakers were Bishop Hope Morgan Ward of the Mississippi Conference, Dr. Scott Morris, a family physician and ordained United Methodist Minister and founder of the Memphis, Tennessee Church Health Center clinic. Rev. Orlando Chaffee who replaced our own Pastor Dan as Superintendent in the North Coast District and Rev. Daniel Bogre of the Church of the Savior, Cleveland Heights.
Bishop Hopkins ordained 10 Elders. Also presented for commissioning were 8 elected provisional members. Our own Gary W. Glasscock was received as an Associate Member of the Annual Conference, under appointment until he retires.
The Service of Retirement of 19 ministers was celebrated, sending Marvin R. Brown and the others forth in the spirit of John Wesley - the world to be their parish.
Thank you for your contribution of 21 Flood Buckets (now known as Cleaning Buckets) and 60 Health Kits. At Conference a total of 478 Cleaning Buckets, 5,700 Health Kits, $3,570 in cash, and 600 Layettes and book bags were collected.
Delegates approved the following General Conference petitions :
- That 48 projects submitted by the Mission Awareness Committee be adopted and promoted, of which Masindi Educational Ministries is one passed.
- YAC (Youth Annual Conference) resolution allowing youth active participation in their church.
- YAC resolution - There are 10 District youth councils in the EOC. Many Districts hold events that may be of interest to other District youth groups. In future, information will be sent to a youth leader representative of each church in the Conference.
