Services

  • Daytime advocate and support for shelter guests by Project Hope staff.
  • Evening needs assessments, goal plans, and referrals by Project Hope staff.
  • Mental health outreach by Pathways and Neighboring staff.
  • Substance Abuse Prevention by Lake-Geauga Center for Alcohol & Drug Abuse.
  • Survival Skills Workshops presented by Lakeland Women's Center Bible Study led by Project Hope volunteers.
  • One professional and two volunteers are on site from 8 PM until 8 AM. In addition, an assistant works 8-11 PM. 

Shelter

Guests are greeted when the doors open at 8:30 PM by volunteers and professional staff and offered a hot meal and shower.

New guests are interviewed, assigned primary social worker, and with the skilled guidance of the social worker, complete needs assessment and develop a goal plan. Social workers follow up on the goal plans of all shelter guests on a weekly basis.

On many evenings, support groups are offered for self esteem and drug and alcohol prevention. Bible study is also available. Evening devotions are held with interested guests. A member of either the professional or volunteer staff remains awake and monitors the site at all times. Coffee, juice, and a light snack is offered the next morning and guests help clean up before leaving the shelter at 7:30 AM.

Hotel accommodations may be arranged for persons who are pregnant, have small children, work a third shift job or have serious illness.

Assistance with security deposits for housing may also be available to eligible persons.

Arrangements

Referrals can be made by local social service agencies, churches, and police departments. Walk-ins cannot be accepted. Call United Way LINK Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM - 4:45 PM at 440-352-LINK or 800-394-4598.

Support

You can support the ministry of Project Hope through your prayers, serving as a volunteer or financial contributions.

Volunteer orientation sessions are held on a regular basis. Service opportunities include providing meals, doing laundry, leading Bible study and devotions and providing overnight assistance to our professional staff.

Financial donations are always welcome. In addition, Project Hope also maintains a wish list of needed items. Call 440-354-6417 to obtain a copy.

Ecumenical

Project Hope is a truly ecumenical ministry, supported by over 65 diverse churches in Lake, Geauga, Ashtabula and Cuyahoga counties. Chardon United Methodist ChurchNor is one of those churches.  Project Hope does not require shelter guests or volunteers to belong to a church. We simply share the love of Jesus Christ with shelter guests. Worship, devotions, and Bible studies offered are all non-denominational.
