Lately it seems that the Lord is putting one word in my heart and my mind; humble.  If you have been reading this blog, you already know that humility is something that I have had trouble with and have been working on for a while.  Today starts a new day in making that word a part of my life.  It is so easy for us in this world to desire attention, to crave the promotion, the glory, and the fame.  Everything around us makes self-gratification seem like the way to happiness and glory.  Television exalts the famous, and we eat it up.  We look to the wealthy and the famous, as the great ones of our time, yet in the eyes of Christ what makes them great. When you look at their daily lives, have they acted like Jesus would have wanted? Christ, who was the most famous person to ever walk this earth, didn't act much of anything like our celebrities.  (p.s. I'm not on a vendetta, there are some great famous and wealthy people, but when you are tired and want to go to bed stereotyping takes less time)  He washed his disciples feet, he hung out with people who were "less" than him, he treated everyone with the same respect, and didn't expect anything in return.  It is sad, that in our society, what should make a person awesome in the eyes of his peers is not at all what we seek or desire.  Luke said it best that if you exalt yourself you will be humbled, and if you are humble, you will be exalted.   It is 11:30 on Sunday night, and I am here again fighting with myself over humility.  I am a perfectionist (if you have ever worked with me you sorrowfully know this fact) and because of this I am driven to be the best that I can be at everything that I do. But tonight I stop to think how often has that stopped me from being humble?  How often have I missed an opportunity to exalt someone else because I was too busy exalting myself?  How often have I missed God's call to use my gifts, not for my gain, but to further His kingdom on earth?  So tonight I type the word HUMBLE, and I choose to make it the focus of my drive.  Starting tonight, rather than focusing on being the best, I want to focus on how being humble can glorify my friends, my family, and my God.  As I pray tonight for humility, and focus, I will pray for all of you to have the same, so that one day we may be exalted in Heaven where it really matters.  Have a great week and God Bless.
