It is one week after I posted the "numbers and joy" blog about how great it has been to see so many people attending the Sunday morning service. I am well aware of God's ability to humble his servants, and I seem to be one of his favorite ones to humble. When starting this service I had a long talk with God about giving up a pretty good gig (for my ego) as a front man for Cleveland's top cover band. In the cover band role attendance is everything and it tends to reflect your talent. Thus it is very discouraging to sing in front of 700 people one show, and then 70 the next.
My own ego has been a big obstacle for me in this new role, I sometimes forget that I am now performing for an audience of one, and that He is the only one that need be present. So in his grand and talented fashion, he provided a blizzard this week, dropping our numbers to 64 and putting me back in my place. A place that I am thankful to be; humbled before Him the only one whose count truly matters. So forgive my if my head ever gets too big, and I forget even for just a moment the true reason for leading worship, because I will be eating humble pie soon enough. He will make sure of it. Have a great week, and I hope to see all of you safe and back at church this Sunday to sing praises to the One who is our only audience. |
