The word was to be courage, but by combining our March and April newsletters, I’ve chosen SACRIFICE. We’ve been hearing this word a lot lately. The dictionary defines sacrifice as: 1) an act of offering to do a deity something precious. 2) something offered in sacrifice. 3) a destruction or surrender of something for the sake of something else. Wow! This describes much of what is happening in our world today. Men and women are sacrificing their lives to fight in the war in Iraq. Many are sacrificing due to loss of job and income. Many are giving to others through service at soup kitchens, homeless shelters, etc. Sacrifice. It is a powerful thing. We see it everyday. Yet, it is a hard thing to do. |

SACRIFICE = LOSS = GAIN = HOPE = JOY
One must sacrifice—give up something—to gain something better, which then brings hope of something better, which then brings joy. Who knew sacrifice could do all that?
Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice—He gave His life. Read the story in John chapters 18-20, the betrayal, crucifixion and then resurrection of Christ. He sacrificed His life, He lost His life, He gained salvation for those who believe, He brought hope to the world and we experience joy for we have the gift of salvation and eternal life with God. Try out the formula in your life. Instead of sitting around moping or watching TV or doing nothing, make a little sacrifice and see how it changes not only your life, but those around you . Don’t be afraid. It may be very exciting and may change your life! |

Have you ever felt like nobody loves your? Like if you died today, nobody would care? Well you would be wrong. There is someone. Someone who loves you for who you are. Someone who forgives you when you mess up. Someone who helps you up when you fall.
His love is true. His love is just. He loves you more than your parents. If in trouble, He wants to help you. If in doubt, turn to Him. If lost, ask Him for guidance. This love that I talk about, is incapable by man or woman. This love is none other than…

To be young, wealthy and in love—all in the third century. And to be a Christian. Such was young Valentine. He would consummate his great love by taking her as his bride. Soon he would be wed.
But his pleasurable, orderly world came crashing down around him when the Roman emperor declared all Christians illegal citizens and guilty of treason. All they had to do was say, “Caesar is Lord!” But all they’d say was, “No, Jesus is Lord!” Rather than deny Christ, young Valentine was arrested in the crackdown. |

Say, “I Love You.”
All of us who have loved or been loved know that the words “I love you” can never be spoken too often. For some of us who have weathered the hurts of broken relationships, saying, “I love you.” for the first time again is one of the most frightening things we will ever do.
Saying “I love you” out loud is an important milestone in any relationship—whether you are
- Whispering it to a new sweetheart,
- Promising it to a new child,
- Admitting it to an estranged parent,
- Offering it to a lonely friend,
- Revealing it to a rival sibling.
Saying “I love you” once is never enough. It is just the beginning. We must say, “I love you” over and over again—before we begin to trust the reality of those words and before we can feel the weight of the love that lies behind them.
