Sunday, September 11th

Confirmands - 1:00
Oasis Youth Group - 3:00 pm

On Sunday, September 11th, the Chardon United Methodist Church Youth Group set their sails for a new year of learning, sharing, and spiritual formation.  Capt. John Eltzroth and Leigh Garam (from Lake Metroparks) have arranged to hold the event at Fairport Harbor Lakefront Park Beach.  They will teach our youth the basics of sailing.  The youth may use kayaks while they waited to sail.  Sailing will be followed by a cookout, beach volleyball, and a life lesson presented around a campfire by John Eltzroth.
We've now had three years of perfect weather for this event!  Our sailing video will attest to the great time the youth of the church had in prior years!!!

Permission slips are required.   You can find directions (and a map) and other details about the Fairport Harbor Beach event at http://www.chardonumc.org.  (Bottom of the home page.)   The Perchfest is this weekend, so if you are parking, you should enter the beach from the back.  (See the map.)   Our schedule is as follows:

  • 12:30 pm - The Confirmands will board the Church van and travel to Fairport Harbor Beach.  Depending on the weather, we will spend time on both the beach and lake.  We plan to use both the kayaks and sailboats.  The youth will get wet!  Please make sure they bring a change of clothes and towels.  We will not be on the lake, if the weather becomes unsafe.  Other activities include beach volleyball, Frisbee, or just hanging out.
  • 3:00 pm – The Oasis youth group will arrive to join us for the rest of the sailing adventure.  At this time, the confirmands are done with their commitment, but I hope that most of them stay for the rest of the afternoon.  Parents can pick them up at the beach any time after 3, if they need to leave early.
  • 6:00 pm – Boats are off the lake and the cookout will commence.  We will have already started the campfire to warm everyone and get ready for the “life lesson”.
  • 7:00 pm – Life lesson around the campfire.
  • 8:00 pm – End of the event.  Parents should arrange to pick up their youth at Fairport Harbor.

Remember.  The youth will get wet, and it can get cold this time of year!  Please make sure they bring a change of clothes and towels.

We want to thank Lake Metroparks for offering their fantastic boating location and equipment.  To learn more about Lake Metroparks, please visit www.lakemetroparks.com
